Ingredients

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry (10x15-inch ) thawed
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese or cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 lb. medium asparagus trimmed
  • ¼ cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 1 egg beaten

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to fit a baking sheet.
  • Place the rolled-out puff pastry on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
  • Score a border about 1 inch from the edges of the puff pastry, creating a border but not cutting all the way through.
  • Sprinkle the shredded Gruyère (or cheddar) cheese evenly within the scored border.
  • Arrange the trimmed asparagus spears on top of the cheese, alternating the direction of the tips.
  • Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the asparagus.
  • Brush the edges of the puff pastry with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden and puffed.
  • Once baked, let it cool slightly before slicing. Serve and enjoy your delicious Asparagus Tart!

Notes

  • Thaw the puff pastry just until it’s pliable enough to work with.
  • Be sure to remove the tough ends from each asparagus stalk.
  • Use asparagus that’s similar in size and trim the ends to the same length so they cook evenly.
  • Dry the asparagus thoroughly after washing it to remove excess moisture.
  • For the best flavor, use freshly grated cheese.
