How To Make This Easy Guacamole Recipe
Ingredients
- Avocados — Be sure to use ripe avocados, as they’re easiest to mash and have the best flavor.
- Onion — I like white onion, but red onion is also a good option.
- Tomato — I use one Roma tomatoes with the seeds removed.
- Cilantro — If you’re not a cilantro fan, you can sub a different fresh herb, like parsley.
- Jalapeño — I prefer to remove the seeds but feel free to adjust the heat level to your liking.
- Lime — The lime juice balances the creamy avocado and keeps it from browning. I recommend using fresh lime juice instead of bottled. You can use lemon juice if you prefer too.
- Salt — Finish with salt to bring all the flavors in this guacamole recipe together.

Instructions
Start with the avocados:
- Use a sharp knife to carefully slice each avocado in half and remove the pit.
- Scoop out the fruit and place it in a mixing bowl. Then, mash the avocado flesh.

Mix it all together:
- Next, add the remaining ingredients to the bowl and mix it well.
- Taste the guacamole and adjust the salt and lime juice if needed.

Serve and enjoy:
- Serve this easy guacamole recipe with tortilla chips or veggies.
Expert Tips
- If your avocados are close to being too ripe, you can store them in the fridge until you’re ready to make this easy guacamole recipe.
- You can make this as smooth or chunky as you like – it all depends on how you mash it. I like a lot of texture, so I don’t mash the avocados very much.
- Always taste before serving. The lime and salt do a lot to balance the flavors, so even small adjustments can make a big impact.
How To Store Leftovers
You can store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 1 to 2 days. To keep it from turning brown, I like to press a layer of plastic wrap over the guacamole to keep the air out.
You can also squeeze lemon or lime juice on top of this simple guacamole recipe before placing the lid on.

What To Serve with Guacamole
- Chips: I could eat a whole meal of just tortilla chips and guacamole! It’s also great with fresh, crunchy veggies like carrots, jicama, or red peppers.
- Tacos: This easy guacamole recipe is perfect for taco night. I love it with my slow cooker carnitas tacos, grilled fish tacos, or a loaded taco salad.
- Burgers: Add a scoop of homemade guac to any of these Bunless Burger Recipes for even more flavor.
- Other ideas: This easy guacamole recipe pairs well also with chicken enchiladas, baked potatoes, toast or sandwiches.
Recipe Variations
Heat level: It’s very easy to control the heat level in this recipe. I love a spicy dip, so I’ll add cayenne pepper and extra jalapeno to mine. If you really don’t like spice, you can use a bell pepper instead.
Add-ins: Feel free to customize this guacamole recipe however you like! It’s so good with grilled corn mixed in, or even fresh fruit like pineapple or mango.
Seasoning: I like to keep the seasonings simple, but cumin, garlic powder, or paprika would all be good complements.
Frequently Asked Questions
This guacamole recipe is chock full of whole, healthy ingredients. I focus on fresh produce and don’t use any mayo or other additives. Plus, avocados are a great source of healthy fats and essential nutrients like fiber and potassium.
Since avocados oxidize (turn brown) over time, I recommend making this recipe fresh. You can make it an hour or so ahead of time and keep it in the fridge until you’re ready to serve. Just be sure to cover it well.
Absolutely! You can increase the recipe as much as you need to.
To speed up the ripening process for guacamole-ready avocados, give the paper bag trick a shot. Just toss the avocado and an apple in a paper bag, seal it, and leave it on your counter for about a day. Or, you can let the avocados ripen naturally in your fruit bowl.

Delicious and flavorful filnlig, but a bit too spicy and I only used 1/2 tsp of the cayenne. A big hit with the family, including my 5 year old, but next time will only use about 1/4 tsp of cayenne. Will definitely be on our Mexican rotation!
Claudia Niemeyer says
Hello Olivia, I don’t know if you knew this, but if you return the pit to the guacamole and bury it inside, it also prevents it from turning brown. Have a good one!
Olivia says
I’ve heard of that trick before, but I haven’t tried it myself.
