Keep cool and refreshed this summer with our Pineapple Mango Smoothie. With the zesty hint of mint and the hydrating power of coconut water, it’s the perfect tropical indulgence!
This is the time of year when all I want to eat are smoothies, salads, and anything on the grill. Mostly because I don’t want to turn on the oven, but also because smoothies remind me of home and are made with simple ingredients.
Growing up in Brazil, I remember my mom making me and my sister smoothies using fresh fruits from the local farms. They were SO good and my favorite kind of snack. I think that’s why I LOVE smoothies of any kind to this day.
So, that’s my inspiration for this vibrant smoothie. I grew up eating tropical fruits like mango and pineapple all the time. Here in Canada, I try to use them as much as I can while they’re in season.
My key ingredient in this mango pineapple smoothie recipe is the fresh mint. It really brings the summer vibes of this healthy smoothie to a whole different level. It’s sweet, refreshing, cooling, and just SO delicious.

Ingredients You’ll Need
- Frozen mango — I’m using frozen mango because it gives this smoothie the best creamy texture. You can certainly use fresh mango instead.
- Pineapple chunks — Fresh pineapple is an excellent hydrator with the perfect balance of tangy and sweet. Freshly squeeze orange juice is also great as a sweetener.
- Banana — Complements the pineapple and mango perfectly, and gives the smoothie a thick consistency. You can use frozen banana too.
- Mint — The key ingredient to this refreshing smoothie! You can add more or less depending on how much of the mint flavor you want to come through.
- Coconut water — I love the tropical flavor of the coconut water, but regular water works just fine, too.
Get The Perfect Consistency
Frozen fruit: To get a thick, slushy consistency you need at least one frozen fruit. This will make your smoothie creamer.
Water ratio: This smoothie is nice and thick, but still very drinkable. If you want it thinner, add a splash more coconut water. If you prefer a thick “smoothie bowl” texture, use two frozen fruits or less water.
Make A Pineapple Mango Smoothie in 3 Easy Steps
- Combine all the ingredients (pineapple, mango chunks, mind, banana and coconut water) in a blender and blend until smooth.
- Taste and adjust the consistency, if needed.
- Pour your smoothie into a glass and enjoy!
Olivia’s Recipe Tips
- Begin blending at a low speed to break up the large pieces. Then, you can increase the speed until the smoothie is…well, smooth.
- Start with two mint leaves, taste the smoothie, and add the other two if you want a stronger mint flavor.
- The fruit lends a lot of natural sweetness, but you can also add honey, maple syrup, agave or a pitted date to make your smoothie on the sweeter side.
- I always recommend using frozen fruit instead of ice cubes for smoothies. This way, you still get a thick consistency without watering down your smoothie.
Popular Variations & Mix-Ins
Protein: Make this smoothie into a meal by adding a scoop of protein powder. I recommend vanilla protein powder or unflavored for this particular recipe.
Milk: For an even creamier texture, use dairy milk, coconut milk or almond milk instead of water. You could also add a spoonful of coconut yogurt or plain Greek yogurt.
Greens: Give yourself an extra boost of nutrition with a handful of spinach or kale. The flavors in this smoothie are strong enough that they totally mask the greens.
Seeds: For extra nutrients in your smoothie, add chia seeds or hemp seeds.
How to Meal Prep Smoothies
Freeze the ingredients: Make grab-and-go “smoothie bags” by placing the pineapple, mango, and mint in a freezer-safe bag. When you’re ready to make your smoothie, pour the frozen ingredients into the blender, add your coconut water, and blend.
Freeze the smoothie: Portion prepared smoothies into silicone freezer trays. Then, put one in the fridge to thaw overnight and it’ll be ready to go in the morning. Just give it a quick shake before enjoying, as the ingredients tend to separate.
Frequently Asked Questions
First, use a sharp knife to slice off the top and bottom. Then, stand it up on one of the cut ends and slice the pineapple in half.
Look for a lighter section in the middle of the pineapple – that’s the core. Remove the core by cutting out a V shape.
Carefully remove the rind by slicing it off from top to bottom, leaving behind as much of the fruit intact as possible.
From here, cut the pineapple into quarters and then dice it into bite-sized chunks.
My two favorite blenders to make a smoothie are:
1. NutriBullet, just because it allows you to blend in the cup you’ll be drinking from. It’s so practical and makes cleanup a breeze.
2. I also love my Vitamix – it’s the one item in my kitchen that gets used EVERY single day. I use it to make everything from smoothies and sauces to my low-carb blueberry muffins.
You certainly can! Strawberries, nectarines, berries, kiwi, and papaya would all be excellent additions to this dairy-free and vegan recipe.
In order to get that quintessential slushie texture, you need at least one frozen fruit. If you prefer to use fresh mango and ripe banana, I recommend frozen pineapple, so you get the best smoothie texture.
