This Maple Mustard Salmon recipe features a four-ingredient glaze that’s sweet, tangy, and incredibly flavorful! Ready in under 30 minutes, it’s an easy and versatile meal that the whole family will love!
Anyone who knows me knows how much I love fish, especially salmon! You can find SO many salmon recipes here on the blog, including these 35 Easy Salmon Recipes You Need To Make For Dinner. I could eat salmon for every meal and be perfectly happy.
In fact, I have before! I only ate fish and eggs during a period in my life. But, since moving to Canada, I’ve added chicken, turkey, and occasionally beef to my diet.
We still eat a lot of salmon though. And I mean a LOT!
This recipe is hands down one of my favorites. I love the combination of the Dijon mustard and maple syrup in the glaze. Then, the garlic and fresh thyme add another layer of flavor. All the elements of this dish work so well together!
This salmon in the oven is one of the easiest recipes you can make. Just whisk the glaze together, brush it on the salmon, and let the oven take care of the rest. The fish turns out perfectly tender and flaky every time.
Pair it with rice, veggies, and salads – it’s a versatile dish that you’ll want to make again and again!
Ingredients Needed
- Salmon fillets — You can either buy pre-cut fillets or one large fillet. But if you prefer, instead of whole fillets, you can make quick maple mustard salmon bites. They’re especially great for salads, bowls, and meal prep.
- Maple syrup — Opt for pure maple syrup for the best flavor. But you can also make it with honey.
- Dijon mustard — I use a smooth Dijon mustard here, but whole grain Dijon mustard works just as well.
- Garlic — I use one clove, but you’re welcome to use more!
- Fresh thyme — I like to use thyme both in the glaze and for garnish.
- Seasonings — A sprinkle of kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- Lemon — Fresh lemon wedges for serving.
Opcional: I keep it simple with just salt and pepper, but you can season the salmon however you like! Great with fresh dill or dried spices like paprika, cayenne pepper and onion powder.
Instructions To Make Maple Mustard Salmon
- First, preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Then, whisk the sauce ingredients together in a small bowl. Place salmon (skin side down) on the baking sheet.
- Generously coat the pieces of salmon with the maple Dijon glaze.
- Then, bake them for 15 to 20 minutes. Salmon is cooked when it flakes easily with a fork.
- Once they’re done, garnish with lemon wedges and fresh time.
- Enjoy gluten free and perfectly cooked maple mustard glazed salmon with your family’s favorite sides!
Olivia’s Recipe Tips
- Look for salmon fillets that are similar in size so they all cook at the same rate.
- I like to leave the salmon skin on for a little crispiness, but you can remove the skin if you prefer. Keep in mind, it’s easier to remove the skin after it’s baked.
- Before cooking the salmon, I typically let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes. This helps the fish cook evenly all the way through.
- Be sure to leave some room between each fillet on the baking sheet so they’re not overcrowded.
- Add some potatoes to the baking sheet with the salmon to make a delicious sheet pan dinner.
How To Store Leftovers
To Store: Keep the cooled leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. I use a glass container when storing fish, since it doesn’t hold onto odors.
To Freeze: Once they’ve reached room temperature, place the fillets in a freezer-safe bag. Then, freeze them for up to 4 months.
To Reheat: I typically reheat leftover salmon in the microwave. You can also pop it in the oven until it’s heated through.
What To Serve With Maple Mustard Salmon
This easy chopped salmon salad is my favorite way to enjoy this recipe with also this delicious sweet potatoes, air fryer broccoli, roasted brussels sprouts, or easy roasted vegetables.
Other great grain side dishes for this recipe is fluffy rice and quinoa salad. I also love to serve it with couscous salad.
Frequently Asked Questions
You certainly can! I use frozen salmon all the time and it works just as well as fresh salmon. Just be sure to thaw it completely in the fridge first, and then remove the extra moisture with a paper towel.
Absolutely! The glaze is super versatile and pairs well with other types of fish. Trout, cod, and halibut are all great alternatives. You can even use the glaze with shrimp, chicken, pork, and beef, too!
If you want to make the glaze ahead of time, it’ll keep for a couple of weeks in the fridge. I like to store it in a mason jar and give it a good shake before using it.

Ingredients
- 4 salmon fillets
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons dijon mustard
- 1 garlic gloves minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme chopped
- salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 6 slices of lemon for garnishing
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, whisk together maple syrup, Dijon mustard, garlic, thyme, salt and pepper.
- Brush the honey mustard mixture generously over each salmon fillet, coating them evenly.

Tips
- It’s important to pat the salmon dry so it browns nicely instead of steaming in the oven.
- Do not overbake the salmon as it’ll become dry! Salmon is done when it gets at the minimum internal temperature of 145˚F. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature.
- I recommend getting wild-caught salmon over farmed salmon.

I am on the same dang page as you! I love all things seafood, particularly salmon, and could care less about red meat! Also a huuuuge fan of mustard on my salmon – I slathered mustard on my salmon last night for dinner but your maple-y sauce sounds like such a win! This’ll definitely go down for my next round of salmon!
