I love how satisfying it is when I take that first bite of a chicken wing, and I hear the sound of the crunch of the crispy skin. While you may think you can only get that perfectly crispy restaurant-quality crunch with a deep fryer, the air fryer does an amazing job of mimicking it at home! Even better, it’s faster to make in the air fryer than in the oven! While oven-baked wings can be super crispy, the air fryer does the same but much quicker.

Don’t have an air fryer? Try my Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings or my Crispy Baked Chicken Wings Recipe instead! They take longer than the air fryer, but they are worth the wait! Also, try this Air Fryer Chicken Breast Recipe if you don’t have chicken wings on hand.

Are Air Fryers Good for Chicken Wings?

Yes! Air fryers are great for chicken wings and also for chicken thighs, as you can get the skin to be super crispy without needing a lot of oil. Actually, this air fryer chicken wings recipe doesn’t use any oil at all! All you have to do is season the wings and put them in the air fryer. The fat from the skin is enough to crisp them up.

How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Thighs

Ingredients

  • Chicken Wings — chicken wings are a delicious budget budget-friendly source of protein! Make sure to get them split into flats and drumettes to save yourself the time from doing it yourself.
  • Seasonings —  I use a mix of dried oregano, paprika, garlic powder, ground coriander, cumin, salt, and black pepper to season my air fryer chicken wings. Feel free to change things up by switching the seasonings to your liking.

Instructions

Prepare the Seasoning

In a small bowl, combine the dried oregano, paprika, garlic powder, ground coriander, cumin, salt, and black pepper.

A small glass bowl with dried oregano, paprika, garlic powder, ground coriander, cumin, salt, and black pepper.

Mixed seasoning in a small glass bowl.

Prepare the Chicken

  • Pat the chicken wings dry with a paper towel, then add the seasonings to the chicken wings. Using your hands, toss the wings until fully coated with seasoning. When you pat the wings dry, it helps the seasoning stick to the thighs better. Plus, the moisture will make the thighs steam up in the air fryer, so don’t skip patting them dry!

Air Fry the Wings

  • Place the chicken wings in an even layer in your air fryer basket.
  • Air fry the wings for 8 minutes and then flip the wings. Continue cooking them for at least 10 more minutes or until the internal temperature is 165°F.

Change Things Up

Here are a few seasoning ideas to change things up.

  • Herbes de Provence
  • Italian seasoning
  • BBQ chicken rub
  • Lemon pepper seasoning
  • Chipotle seasoning
  • Mediterranean Dry Rub
  • Cajun seasoning

How Many Wings Can You Cook in an Air Fryer?

Depending on the size of your air fryer basket, you may or may not be able to fit the same amount as I do. Mine fits about 12 chicken wings lying in a single flat layer. You’ll have to cook your wings in batches, as it’s best not to stack the wings.

Storage Tips

If you have leftover chicken wings, be sure to store them in an airtight container in the fridge. The wings will absorb moisture and get soggy if you don’t use an airtight container!

How to Serve Air Fryer Chicken Wings

Chicken wings work as an appetizer or as part of a main meal! Here are some ways to serve them:

  • As part of a snacking or appetizer plate: serve with some cut carrots, celery, edamame, and other finger foods alongside some dip.
  • As part of a main meal: I like serving chicken wings alongside some salad to keep the meal on the lighter side, but fries or onion rings go well with chicken wings as well!

Frequently asked questions

Are chicken wings low-carb?

These air fryer chicken wings are low-carb! They’re also gluten-free, keto-friendly, paleo, and Whole30-friendly as well.

Can these wings be prepared ahead of time?

Yes! You can do this in two ways. You can either season them, then let them marinate in the fridge a day ahead of time, then air fry them when you’re ready to eat. Alternatively, you can air fry them and store them in the fridge for up to 4 days and reheat them in the air fryer when you’re ready to serve.

Can these wings be cooked from frozen?

I recommend you don’t cook these wings from frozen. You can use frozen chicken wings if you thaw them first.

What dipping sauce goes well with chicken wings?

Ranch dressing, Buffalo sauce, or blue cheese dipping sauce goes well with these wings. Also, I love eating them with avocado sauce. It’s a lighter dip for you.
