How To Make Air Fryer Green Beans Recipe
Ingredients
- Green beans — To prep the green beans, I wash them very well and remove the ends.
- Olive oil — Extra virgin olive oil is always my go-to, but avocado oil also works well.
- Seasonings — I let the green beans shine and season them with just salt and black pepper to taste.
- Parmesan cheese — Freshly grated Parmesan cheese gives the dish so much flavor.
- Lemon wedges — A squeeze of fresh lemon juice just before serving adds a nice bright element and balances all the flavors.
Instructions to Air Fry Green Beans
- Preheat your air fryer to 380ºF if your model requires you to do so.
Season and cook the green beans:
- Combine the cleaned and trimmed green beans in a large bowl with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Then, toss to coat them evenly.
- Place the green beans in the air fryer basket, arranging them in a single layer. You may need to cook them in two batches, depending on the size of your air fryer.
- Cook for 5-8 minutes, shaking halfway through, until they’re crisp-tender.
- Note: The cooking time may vary based on your air fryer and how tender you like your green beans to be.
Garnish and serve:
- Remove the green beans from the air fryer basket and transfer them to a serving dish.
- Top with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and freshly shredded Parmesan cheese, and enjoy!
Expert Tips
- I typically buy fresh green beans in bulk, then wash and trim them as needed. You can also buy pre-cut and washed green beans to save time.
- After washing your green beans, I recommend drying them very well. This will help the olive oil and seasonings stick better.
- To save time trimming the ends, line the beans up on a cutting board and cut the tops and bottoms off with a sharp knife.
- Be careful not to overcrowd the air fryer basket, as the hot air needs to circulate around all the green beans. Arrange them in a single layer, and cook them in two batches, if necessary.
- Skip the Parmesan cheese if you want to make it vegan.
How To Store Leftovers
- To Store: Place the leftover green beans in an airtight container and store them in the fridge for up to 4 days. I like to use a good glass container, but anything with an airtight lid will work just fine.
- To Freeze: Since this recipe is so quick and easy, I prefer to make the green beans fresh. That said, you can freeze them for up to 3 months in a freezer-safe bag or container.
- To Reheat: You can reheat air fryer green beans any way you prefer! I typically reheat them in the air fryer, but you can also warm them in the oven, microwave, or stovetop.
What To Serve with Air Fryer Green Beans
- Air fryer mains: Give your oven a night off and make a whole air fryer meal! I’ve been making these air fryer lamb chops a lot lately, and we absolutely love them! These green beans would also be so good with air fryer salmon or air fryer chicken breast.
- Your favorite protein: I love this recipe because it truly goes with anything. You can pair it with a nice pan-seared steak or crispy baked chicken wings, and it’s equally delicious with both!
- Comforting casseroles: Air fryer green beans are perfect with a warm, hearty casserole. Try them with my baked meatballs casserole or vegetarian eggplant lasagna.
- More delicious sides: I like to round out my meal with other healthy sides, like fluffy quinoa, mashed sweet potatoes, roasted cauliflower, or a simple tomato salad.
Recipe Variations
- Try different seasonings: I like to keep the seasoning pretty simple but feel free to have fun with your favorite fresh herbs, lemon zest, garlic powder and spices. See my garlic butter green beans recipe for inspiration!
- Add some crunch: For extra texture, I’ll add chopped nuts, crispy onions, or panko bread crumbs, like these roasted green beans with garlic panko.
- Drizzle with sauce: For even more flavor, top these air fryer green beans with a delicious sauce. These roasted green beans with spicy tahini Sauce are incredible! They’d also be great with a drizzle of homemade chimichurri sauce, some aioli sauce or this creamy Whole30 avocado sauce.

Frequently Asked Questions
I prefer to make this recipe with fresh green beans. So, I look for beans that are smooth and bright green with no yellow or brown spots. I also avoid ones that are too large and aim for green beans that are just starting to bulge and about 3 to 4 inches in length.
When trimming green beans, it’s most important to remove the end where the bean was attached to the stalk of the plant. This end is quite tough. The opposite end with the curvy tail can be left or removed, according to your preference.
They certainly are! Green beans are one of my favorite inexpensive healthy veggies. They’re rich in all kinds of vitamins and nutrients, like vitamin K, calcium, and fiber. They also contain lots of antioxidants, including beta-carotene.
