This very easy Ground Turkey Cabbage Skillet recipe is perfect for a quick dinner during the week cause it takes less than 30 minutes to be ready!

Hello, guys! How are you today?
Did you enjoy the Cinco de Maio celebrations with lots of Mexican food like guacamole and tacos?! I hope you had a better day than we had. Yesterday, we had a very bureaucratic day dealing with lots of papers at the Brazilian consulate. Why did we need to go to the consulate? So, this is the exciting news I want to share with you guys today.
In June my husband, my little baby, and I are MOVING TO BRAZIL. Well, it is nothing permanent, but we will be living there for about 5 months. Isn’t that awesome?!! What are the reasons we are doing that now?
First, I love Canada a lot and I am sure I’ll miss the Canadian summer, but since I had my little baby, I’ve been missing my family a lot (they are from Brazil). Every new thing my beautiful little boy does, I wish my family could see and share the special moments.
Second, my husband is Canadian but he has business in Brazil, which allows him to work easily from there. And third, right now, I am not working because, in Canada, we have one-year maternity leave. I’ll go back to work only in February 2017 (if I decide to go back).

So, this is the perfect moment to go and spend more time with my family. Also, they can help me take care of my three-year-old boy, and at the same time, my son will have the opportunity to be with his grandparents. It is going to be a good move for everybody! My husband had the idea to live in Brazil again for a few months and I was very happy with that. My family is also very excited, especially my mom. She told me yesterday she is so happy that she is having trouble sleeping … hahhahahah!
That’s why we are preparing all the legal stuff to go like a passport for Thomas and a visa for my husband. Since he is married to a Brazilian woman, he has the right to get his permanent visa. So yesterday, we spent a good part of the day trying to get all these documents ready at the Brazilian consulate. It all went well and we are receiving all the papers in the middle of the month. Now I have to start packing, which is something that I really don’t like to do, but I have to.

Before you ask … Yes, of course, I’ll be blogging from Brazil and I keep doing what I really like to do, which is sharing my recipes with you guys. Speaking of sharing recipes, today I brought you this easy, quick, and flavorful Ground Turkey Cabbage Skillet recipe that you can make in less than 30 minutes.
Who doesn’t like easy and quick skillet recipes, right? (This Garlic Shrimp Asparagus Skillet has been on repeat!) The only real work you have to do is to chop the cabbage. Easy, right?
When it is done, you just need to sauté the onions, cook the ground turkey well, and add all the rest of the ingredients to the skillet and cook for about 20 minutes total. Awesome!

- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 2 lbs cabbage coarsely chopped
- 1 cup homemade tomato sauce or your favorite tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup vegetable broth
- Salt and pepper
- 1 cup frozen peas
- ½ cup mozzarella cheese shredded
- Fresh parsley for garnishing
Instructions
- In a cast iron skillet, add olive oil over medium heat.
- Add onion and cook until golden brown, stirring occasionally.
- Add ground turkey and cook for 10 minutes or so, breaking it into small pieces and stirring occasionally.
- Add cabbage and cook for about 5 minutes. Don’t forget to stir well.
- Add tomato sauce, broth, salt, and pepper and stir well to combine all the ingredients together.
- Cook for 7 minutes.
- Add peas and cook for more 2 minutes.
- Top with mozzarella cheese and cover the skillet just to melt the cheese. It only takes about 1 or 2 minutes.
- Serve warm topped with fresh parsley.
Notes
- It's fine to use a large non-stick skillet if you do not have a cast-iron skillet.
- If possible, use low sodium broth and salt to taste.
- Feel free to use any type of cabbage such as green or purple.
- To store: Store the turkey and cabbage skillet in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
- To reheat: Reheat the leftovers in the microwave until hot.

You forgot to add the diced tomatoes to your list of ingredients . I assume it is 1 can. Right?
I am sorry. It was a mistake. There isn’t any diced tomatoes in here. Thanks for noticing that 😉
Two pounds of cabbage is a lot . Maybe you meant two cups?
It’s about a medium head of cauliflower. It’ll milt after 5 minutes cooking it.
Wow, congratulations on your staycation in Brazil! Very exciting. How nice is it that you are able to do that due to your husbands work?! And this casserole looks great. I started making a deconstructed cabbage roll casserole last year and we love it. Its very similar to yours, but I havent tried it with turkey or peas yet, but now I will 🙂
Enjoy the time in Brazil. You and your family are so lucky to be able to spend the time with your relatives.
Thank you, Henry 😉
Definitely a bit bland. Added garlic powder and still wasn’t into it. Then added soy sauce after reading the comments here, exactly what it needed! Will probably make it again but with soy sauce or I will experiment with different seasonings.

Do you know how many ww points per serving?
Unfortunately I don’t know. Sorry about that.
Ground Turkey Cabbage Skillet
⅕ cup vegetable broth
I want to make this recipe, but I question 1/5 cup. Pls tell me if this is different.
Susan, I’m really sorry about that. It is actually 1/2 cup vegetable broth. I’ll adjust the recipe to clear further confusion. Thanks for pointing it out!
Just made this for dinner tonight! Everyone loved it!! Super easy and quick. Thank you so much!!
Glad to hear that 😉
This was good, easy to put together, and ready in 30. It was a little bland at first, but I added about 3 T. soy sauce to the skillet as it was cooking and it ended up tasting very well seasoned. I served it over brown rice, and it was very filling. I can see it being a good “clean-out-the-fridge” recipe, adding whatever odds and ends to the skillet have accumulated during the week; if you have a handful of mushrooms or one last chicken thigh or a hunk of cheddar cheese, use those in place of or along with the listed ingredients.
Exactly this recipe is a very good “clean-out-the-fridge” recipe and perfect to make at the end of the week. Thanks a lot for your feedback 😉
loved this recipe!!!! served sprinkled with parmesan cheese.
Wow Happy you loved this recipe 😉
I love this recipe! Gave me a chance to keep using my cast iron skillet. 2lbs of cabbage just looked like too much so I used 1/2 head. It’s still half of the dish. Did I do something wrong? Just curious 🤔
Hi, Laura. Thanks for stopping by. I used 2lbs because my cast iron is big!
Just made it, was delicious 😋
happy to hear that!
Any idea if this is suitable to a low carb diet? I would assume so outside of the tomato sauce.
Yes, it is.
Simple to make and delicious!
Thanks 😉
Using the last of what was in the house before going grocery shopping, this satisfying recipe saved the day! Easy, healthy and delicious. Will make it again!
Glad to heat that 😉
This was totally gross. This is the first recipe I’ve made that I’ve hated. It’s bland. I don’t like the turkey, cabbage, or peas. The turkey is bland. I’m typically a fan of cabbage, but this was too much. The peas are weird and overwhelming. Never again.
So sorry to hear that. I’ve already made this recipe few times and it always come out pretty tasty. You could use ground beef if you don’t like ground turkey, add a very flavourful tomato sauce and skip the peas.
I added flavor to mine. I added Italian seasoning a can of diced tomatoes to it. Served mine over rice cooked in chicken broth. It came out awesome. Definitely a recipe I will make again
Mm… Sounds delicious!
Made this for the first time tonight. Really lovely alternative to turkey bolognese served with side of steamed mangetout and French beans. Enough for lunch tomorrow too! I did add Worcestershire sauce for a bit of an extra kick. Will definitely be adding this to my quick weeknight dinner list. Thanks.
That’s good, Jo. I think Worcestershire is a great addition to this recipe.
I made this with 1/2 a large head of cabbage and left out the peas. I added some cumin, garlic powder, and kashmiri chili powder for extra flavor. I’m skipping the cheese since I don’t think it goes well with the aromatic spices and will serve over steamed basmati rice. Yum!
Awesome!
Tasted ok, but I would not make it again (My family agreed). Also, there is way too much cabbage to fit in a pan, so I needed to break out a 2nd skillet to cook the cabbage. After cooking the cabbage down, it all fit in one pan again.
Loved this recipe. Asking how the fat content is so high? I’m assuming it’s the cheese. Using low fat or Fat free should fix the problem?
Yes it’s the cheese!
