Fall has arrived, and with it, she’s brought chilly nights! I know we all love a really good and warm bowl of chili during this time of the year, so I’ve rounded up 30 must-try healthy chili recipes for you!

On this list, you will find chili recipes that fit almost all kinds of diets, such as paleo, gluten-free, and vegetarian, to satisfy all types of tastes and preferences. These recipes are actually lighter than traditional chili recipes because they’re loaded with veggies, beans (black beans and lentils), lean beef, turkey, or chicken. These healthy chili recipes will hit that craving for comfort food without weighing you down or making you feel guilty about getting seconds or thirds!

What Do I Use to Make Chili In?

I recommend getting a quality heavy-bottomed pot such as a Dutch oven. As chili tends to taste better the longer you cook it, you want a pot that your ingredients won’t easily stick to the bottom and burn, as it’ll be on top of a heat source for a long period of time.

For sizing, I would recommend something between 6 and 10 qt. I find that the 6qt size to be perfect for most recipes and my family of 3, but it’s up to what you prefer and how big your family is.

You can also cook your chilis in slow cookers throughout the day or the Instant Pot for a quick, hands-off dinner. Both these cooking methods allow the chili to cook without you having to hover over it, so it’s great if you’re on the go a lot or if you have to spend the evenings running errands. Again, these come in different sizes, and I find 6 to 10 quarts to be enough for us.

Can You Freeze Leftover or Extra Chili?

Leftover chili needs to be stored in an airtight container in your fridge. If you don’t want to have chili leftover throughout the week, you can freeze it!

Most of these healthy chili recipes are freezer-friendly. Just double-check the ingredients and recipe post before freezing. As chili is more malleable than soup, you can freeze it in flat bags to save freezer space. Make sure to choose freezer bags specifically marked for the freezer, as regular food bags will not last in the freezer.

When ready to eat, thaw the chili in your fridge overnight before transferring it to a bowl or pot and reheating it in the microwave or stovetop until it has heated through.
